Multiple Mini Interviews (MMI) for Medicine Event




 

Aims


Self-Awareness and Development- identifying, assessing and developing the skills and qualities necessary to choose and implement an appropriate career plan.

Career Exploration - acquiring and evaluating information, and reviewing experiences to identify and investigate appropriate career pathways and learning opportunities in education, training and employment, locally, nationally and internationally.

Career Management - developing skills in career planning, and employing effective career decision-making strategies to manage transition and make suitable career development choices, with the appropriate support, advice and guidance.


 

Key Stage 3


YEAR 10


  • Careers education is delivered in a 10 week block beginning in September, focus is to prepare Y10 pupils for GCSE Options

  • Use of Careers software packages such as JED, Pathfinder and Careers Service NI website

  • Careers Service provide a GCSE Transition presentation to each Y10 class in December

  • A variety of visiting speakers address the year group about potential careers during Pastoral Care each month

  • Guidance Interview for prioritised pupils

  • Personal Career Plan- each pupil will develop a personal career plan


 

Key Stage 4 (GCSE)


YEAR 11


  • Careers Education delivered through a 10 week block

  • Use of Careers software packages such as JED, Pathfinder and Careers Service NI website

  • A variety of visiting speakers address the year group about potential careers during Pastoral Care each month

  • Identification of potential candidates for high demand courses (Oxbridge, Medicine etc)

  • Personal Career Planning

  • Guidance Interview for prioritised pupils


YEAR 12


  • Careers Education is delivered through a 10 week block with the emphasis on making AS subject choices

  • Individual guidance interviews with a member of the Careers Service 

  • Use of Careers software packages such as JED, Pathfinder and Careers Service NI website

  • A variety of visiting speakers address the year group about potential careers during Pastoral Care each month

  • Visit to Careers Convention on Thursday

  • Guidance Interviews following GCSE results


 

Key Stage 5 (GCE)


YEAR 13


  • Timetabled careers classes during term 2 and 3 (periods 8 and 9)

  • Work Experience placement and preparation

  • A variety of visiting speakers address the year group about potential careers during Pastoral Care each month

  • University Presentations from visiting speakers

  • Opportunity to visit university open days in June

  • UCAS preparation including personal statement writing

  • Individual UCAS guidance interviews with advisor

  • Careers input to Y13 Induction Evening

  • Guidance following AS results

  • Application to Oxbridge summer schools

  • Presentations from Oxford and Cambridge


YEAR 14


  • Timetabled careers classes during term 1 (periods 8 and 9)

  • Visits to Open Days at QUB and UUJ and St Mary's University College

  • Opportunity to attend Careers Fairs

  • Individual UCAS guidance interviews with advisor

  • Support and guidance with UCAS, CAO and direct entry applications

  • Guidance interview with Careers Service staff upon request

  • Support with Education and Library Board grant applications for Student Loans
