Abair is a public speaking competition open to schools in Northern Ireland and is organised by Gael Linn.
The aim of the competition is to afford public speaking experience in Irish to students. Five or six local qualifying rounds are held during school hours throughout Northern Ireland in November and December. Regional finals take place in February of each year with national finals in March.
The competition is open to students of Irish/Gaeilge in Years 11-14 and it involves writing and delivering a 3-4 minute speech on a topic of the candidate's choice. The competition is a great opportunity for both fluent and non-fluent students to enhance their confidence with the spoken language.
